William “Bill” Lee Nelson, age 90, peacefully went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2024, following a brief illness.
Born on January 3, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Bill married his beloved wife, Winnie Sue Harville, on July 30, 1958. Winnie preceded him in death on January 8, 2014. Bill was a proud father to three children: Mike Nelson (deceased), and his wife Karla of Lebanon, Missouri; Craig Nelson and his wife Pamela of Kimberling City, Missouri; and Cherise White and her husband Tim of Nixa, Missouri.
Bill's legacy continues through his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Austin White, Adam White and his wife MeLeah, Brooke Grubb and her husband Max, Thomas Nelson and his wife Bailey, Amy Bumgarner and husband Alex, Katy Couch and husband Tyler, and great-grandchildren Jayse, Joel, and Michael Bumgarner; Winnie White; Bridger Grubb; and Vivienne Nelson.
In addition to his wife and son, Bill was preceded in death by his parents. Throughout his life, he touched many through his kindness and generosity, as evidenced by the outpouring of love from the staff at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon during his final days. Bill served his country honorably in the Korean War as a Private First Class, later graduating from California Polytechnic University and beginning a fulfilling career as a real estate appraiser for Los Angeles County.
A devoted member of his church, Bill taught children's Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church of Ozark. He was known for his willingness to help others and prioritized his faith above all. In addition to his commitment to church, Bill was a family man who treasured time spent with his grandchildren, loved fishing, going to the gym, and nurturing friendships.
A funeral service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark, with John Black officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Dogwood Cemetery in Douglas County, Missouri. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Bill Nelson will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for family, and the positive impact he had on those around him.
