Wilbur Dean Young, age 87, of Ozark, passed away in his home Thursday, February 25, 2016. He was born April 14, 1928 in Henry, Illinois, the son of Clyde W. and Lavine (Newman) Young. On December 24, 1948 he and Maurine Lawing were united in marriage by Rev. R.E. Musgrave.
Wilbur was employed by area car dealerships for 47 years. He retired as a mechanic for Dennis Hanks Chevrolet. In his spare time he enjoyed crafts, made bird houses and feeders, and recycled tin cans into "tin men".
He was baptized into the Selmore Christian Church in 1947. Wilbur was faithful to the church and served as an Elder and Deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Maurine; a daughter Leandra Costello and husband Joe of Springfield; a son, Wesley Young and wife Carol of Shawnee, Oklahoma; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Louis Young of Crane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mary Lou Haslip.
A graveside memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 5, in Selmore Cemetery, south of Ozark, with Pastor Bud Kelley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Selmore Christian Church.
