Wayne Jeffery Wohlfert, age 77, of Ozark, passed away Friday October 13, 2023. He was born August 27, 1946 in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Charles Hugh Wohlfert and Angeline Stephanie (Baginski) Wohlfert. He was married to Deborah McVey. She preceded him in death in 1991.
Wayne faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy, patrolling the Pacific Rim aboard the USS Ticonderoga, the last wooden decked aircraft carrier. He lived in Indianapolis, Indiana for 40 years, and was an electrician both as a IBEW Local 481 member and later started Wohlfert Electric.
He was a volunteer for Big Brothers, ran for the Indianapolis Board of Education, coached baseball, and was a Cub Scout leader. Some of the family's fondest memories were vacations in Kentucky and Tennessee. He made sure his children grew as Christians and attended Indianapolis Baptist Temple.
Survivors include: three children, their spouses and his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Michelle Wohlfert of Ozark, and Logan, Anna, Lillian, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Ethan; Daniel and Lisa Wohlfert of Rogers, Minnesota, and Ruby and Case; and Rebecca Allanson and Matt of Lagos, Portugal and Nick; sisters, Julie Gembara, and Carla Spaeth and husband Horst; and a brother, Paul Wohlfert and wife Patti; nieces and nephews.
No local services are planned. Entombment will be at a later date in Washington Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Cremation rites were accorded by Adams Crematory.
