Wayne F. Cox

September 7, 1939 — November 10, 2023

Nixa

Wayne Francis Cox, age 84 of Nixa, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, November 10, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born September 7, 1939 in Clever, the son of Francis Byron and Velma Alice (Little) Cox.

Wayne was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had many hobbies and interests throughout his life. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding horses, but first and foremost Wayne was a man of faith, a loving family man with a great passion for gardening. He had a love of reading - especially the Bible. He had an intense desire for knowledge. Wayne attended church all of his life. He served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and was an ordained minister.

Wayne graduated from Clever High School in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Eileen Harvill in June of 1958. To this union, two daughters were born.

In September of 1958 Wayne began working for the United States Postal Service. He started his accomplished postal career as a clerk, and soon went to work in the accounting department. Wayne moved forward as a rural letter carried and advanced to Postmaster. Furthering his career, Wayne became the coordinator of a new postal program. He wrote a training manual and traveled the country teaching labor and management to work together. During his career he received numerous accolades and earned multiple awards. Wayne was the youngest U. S. Postal employee in the nation to win a Superior Accomplishment Award followed by many more.

Wayne’s priority in life was family, ultimately his pride and joy. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, girls, his grandkids and great grandkids. Each one was a precious joy to him. He had a passion for yard work - and it showed in his and Eileen’s beautiful lawn.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Eileen Cox; two daughters, Pamela Christine Lewis and husband Billy and daughter Julie Ann Hargett and husband Mark; grandchildren, Jeremy Hargett and wife Priscila, Timothy Hargett and fiance' Brittney, Jordan Lewis and wife Rachel, Hannah Thompson and husband Kyle; great grandkids, Landon, Addilyn, Jackson, Estela, Cecilia, and Katanna; two brothers, Junior Cox and Larry Cox; and many other family members.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
