Vernard Lee Mullen, age 84 of Nixa, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015. He was born October 31, 1930 in Rockwell, Iowa, the son of John and Flossie (Compton) Mullen.
Vern served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
On November 7, 1975 he married Shirley Patrick Rice.
Vern worked as a finish carpenter, retiring from the Carpenters Union in Southern California. He enjoyed hunting, fishing bowling and traveling. He attended James River Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Mullen, Nixa; children, Randy and Marti Mullen, Cynthia and Michael Speth, Steve and Cindy Mullen, Terry and Lisa Mullen, Terry and Joyce Rice; daughter in law, Pam Mullen; grandchildren, Shawn, Derek, Freedom, Sebastian, Jake, Nikki, Margie, Stephanie, Dusty, Mandi, George, and Jessica; many great grandchildren; sisters, Delphia Foell and Betty Kreiger; a brother, Jack Mullen; his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; a host of family and friends; and two very special adopted families, the Steve Davis family and the A.J. Venatta family.
Vern was preceded in death by a son, Ed Mullen; and his other siblings, Leona, Bill, Helen, Bob, Ed, Chuck and Georgia.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with A.J. Venatta and Les Thomas officiating.
