Vernadeen K. Cutbirth, age 89, of Galena, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017. She was born January 8, 1928, near Galena, the daughter of Hurshel and Ethel (Abbey) Hicks. On November 18, 1946 she and Burney Cutbirth were united in marriage in Columbus, Kansas.
Vernadeen retired from Galena Elementary School only a year ago. She had also worked for Tuckers Garment Factory in Ozark, Crane Manufacturing and Hagale's in Reeds Spring, and helped her daughter at the Iron Skillet Restaurant in Nixa. As a Christian, Vernadeen most recently attended Spokane Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three children Janice Cutbirth, Leetta and Gary McCoy and B.J. Cutbirth, all of Galena; six grandchildren, Bruce A. Aschwege and Bobbi Jo, Lonnie Robertson Jr. and Pam, Gary S. McCoy and Cara, Chad McCoy and Cristin, Crystal Cutbirth and DeMarcus Walter, and Jami Gunn; great-grandchildren, Madison May, Yanci Jo Aschwege, Cameron Robertson, Chase Robertson, Brandon McCoy, DeMarcus Walter Jr, Jaelyn Cutbirth, Kaesha Walter, TaMarr Walter, Tariq Walter, John Bailey Jaiona Bailey, and Jailah Gunn; two sisters, Phena Warren and Carl of Highlandville, and Reva Hill of Reeds Spring; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Burney in 1985; a daughter Betty Robertson and husband Lonnie; and brothers and sister, Lorene Cutbirth, Dora Jones Peckham, Mary DeLong, Colleen Essary, James "Bill" Hicks, Sherman Hicks, Loretta Brooks, Letha Hicks and Eugene Edman Hicks.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 13, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, Highlandville, with Pastor Randy Harwood and Pastor Dave Bowden officiating. Burial will follow in Flood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 PM Sunday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
