Ursula Imes, age 81, passed away February 26, 2024 at Mercy Hospital Springfield, Missouri. She was born April 18, 1942 in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Elisabeth (Vogt) Braun.
Ursula was preceded in death by her husband Gene Imes. Gene passed away May 25, 2023. Gena and Ursula were united in marriage August 27, 1963 celebrating 59 years together. Gene and Ursula met in Augsburg, Germany. Gene was a military policeman at the time. The couple traveled from Germany to Colorado. When Gene was stationed in Vietnam...Ursula made her home at Schilling Manor-the only base set aside for the wives and children of soldiers assigned to Vietnam. Ursula loved the military and loved being a military wife..The title for the wives there was “The Waiting Wives.” She was one of the last waiting wives to wear the white gloves. Military life took them to Okinawa, Japan and then onto Fort Bragg in North Carolina where Gene served as a Green Baret.
Gene and Ursula lived simple conservative lives. Gene and Ursula loved gardening and folk art. Gene loved softball and played in the military. Ursula loved to knit and sew. She knitted many sweaters, hats and scarves for her family. One of the best family vacation memories was a trip to Ashville, North Carolina to the Biltmore House and Gardens home of the Vanderbilt family. Ursula's specialty dish for her family was German Rouladen with cabbage and fried potatoes.
Survivors include: a daughter Jackie Banderman and son-in-law David.
Ursula will be reunited with her parents; her husband Gene; two sons, Richard and Michael and her Beloved Oma.
A graveside service for Ursula and her husband Gene will be Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri with full military honors with Chaplain Dave from Haven Hospice officiating.
Cremation rites for Ursula were accorded by Adams Crematory.
