Tracy Deane Onnen, 71, passed away on April 3rd, 2019 in Nixa, MO from an aggressive form of Alzheimer's. He was the first born of Deane and Colleen Onnen, and big brother to Claudia and Laurie. He grew up in northwest Iowa, before enlisting in the Navy. He proudly served his country during Vietnam, during which time he met his wife, Susan. They lived in various states, and ended up for the longest stretch in Michigan. He was very proud to have received his undergrad from Idaho State University, and his Masters from the University of Notre Dame. He worked for Consumers Energy for over 30 years. He served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various callings, including Bishop of his congregation for a time.
He had a love for old and new sports cars. He enjoyed playing golf, although he admitted he was never really good at it. He had a passion for serving, especially youth. He spent many years serving in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He lived to tell stories, sing songs, and make people laugh. All who knew him knew that he loved to make people happy. His life overflowed with service to others. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He had a young heart and was always found being playful with children around him. He was generous with his time, talents, and resources.
He was preceded in death by his father Deane, his sister Claudia and her husband Richard. Surviving him are his wife Susan, mother Colleen, sister Laurie (Curt), as well as Quinn, Mitzi (Scott), Jamey (Wendy), Jeremy (Andrea), Rebecca, and numerous grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City, Iowa, Saturday April 6th, at 11:00. A celebration of life/story telling memorial will be held in Jackson, Michigan, at 1:00 PM on April 27th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
