Theresa M. Whitcomb, 99, formerly of Sioux Falls, SD, died November 19, 2014 at Springfield, MO. Theresa Marie Madden was born August 22, 1915, to Michael J. and Julia (Haney) in Scotland, SD. Theresa and Donald Kellar Whitcomb were married September 12, 1938, at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, Sioux Falls, SD. Born to this 30-year union were five children: Ann, Sue, Mark, Mary and Don. Theresa was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD, and, later, of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Ozark, MO. She was active in Cathedral Club, CDA Court St. Patricia, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was named St. Joseph Cathedral Mother of the Year in 1994. Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband, Don, her daughter Ann Whitcomb Jons, her granddaughter Julie Jons LaPlante, her daughter Mary Whitcomb Steensland; three brothers and two sisters. Grateful for her life are her children: Sue McCoy of Springfield, MO, Margaux Madden of Sioux Falls, SD, and Don Whitcomb (Donna) of Durango, CO; son-in-law Craig Steensland of Nixa, MO; 14 grandchildren: Jeanne Jons Bisaccia (Richard), Karen Jons Holmen (Jon), Daniel Jons, Michele McCoy (John Capelle), Marie McCoy, Michael McCoy (Jennifer), Kristin Ziebart, Rebekka Ziebart, Carolyn Steensland, Susan Steensland, Tanner Tassie, Dylan Whitcomb (Janna), and Keaton Whitcomb; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church in Sioux Falls on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., with internment to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Sioux Falls. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Ozark, MO, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church, 523 N. Duluth Ave., Sioux Falls, SD; or to the Donald Madden Family Scholarship Foundation at Children's Home Society Foundation, 801 N. Sycamore Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.
