Steven Mark "Steve" Dunn of Ozark MO was born on November 7,1958 and died on March 29, 2017 in Hattiesburg MS after suffering a heart attack. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester & Phyllis Dunn, brother John Dunn and 2 infant siblings. He is survived by his wife Jan Dunn; "second parents" John H. & Charlotte Beazley; brother in law and sisters in law John E. Beazley, Dawn Beazley & Marcy Dunn; nephews and nieces Mike and Kelly Dunn, Aaron (Milly), Travis (Jessica), Brian (Hailey) Beazley; 8 great nieces and nephews; aunts and uncle Donna and Cecil Stevenson, Sharon Randolph, Barbara Tuck; best friends Bill and Stacye Rinehart; along with cousins and a multitude of great friends.
Steve graduated from Central High School in Springfield and was a member of Grant Avenue Baptist Church throughout his youth. He was active in many sports but baseball was his passion. He was a left handed pitcher for the SMS (now MSU) Bears. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and ended his career with the Lakeland Tigers in FL after hurting his arm. He returned to Springfield and coached for SMS and Central Legion Baseball.
He married his best friend and soul mate Jan Elizabeth Beazley on October 4, 1986. They celebrated their 30th anniversary last fall with an amazing trip to Akumal Mexico. Steve worked for MODOT for 27 years and retired in 2012. He started in Construction on the survey party, moved to Traffic as a Permit Inspector and was then promoted to Maintenance as an Area Maintenance Superintendent where he served in Buffalo, Ozark and ended his career covering Stone, Taney and Christian counties. Steve loved the outdoors, especially his float trips on the Buffalo National River and his time spent at his lake place on Table Rock. He was an avid fan of the Cardinals, Chiefs and MSU Bears. He was a Shriner and was recently involved with the Shrine Mosque Preservation Baseball Showcase. Steve was a doer and loved helping people with projects of any kind. Family and friends were the most important part of his life. He will be truly missed and forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held Sunday April 2 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark. A celebration of life will be held Monday April 3 at 2 pm in the funeral home followed by interment at Linden Cemetery in Sparta.
