Stephen Scott Sparkman

September 9, 1963 — July 2, 2024

Nixa, Missouri

On July 2nd, 2024 Stephen Scott Sparkman, “Sparky”, went home to be with Jesus after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and covered in prayer. Scott is now pain free and rejoicing with the Lord.

Scott was born on September 9th, 1963 to Billy and Carolyn Sparkman of Texarkana, TX. They raised him alongside his younger sisters, Sharon and Shannon, prioritizing and leading by example their love of God and family.

Scott pursued an accounting degree at Texas A&M-Texarkana, which led him to work for the federal prison in Texarkana. He then transferred to Springfield's Federal Medical Center, where he met the love of his life-Sherry. After a casual friendship, Scott knew what he wanted. The first opportunity that arose, he asked Sherry on their first date on May 18, 1991. In a whirlwind of a romance and realizing they had found their person, they were married on October 12th, 1991. Scott got a package deal when he married Sherry, gaining Amy as his daughter. Scott and Sherry welcomed their daughter Brooke to the family on August 13th, 1992. Many years later, they opened up their hearts and their family to gain a bonus daughter, Erica.

Scott shared his love of Jesus and the outdoors with any person he met. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Battlefield. Scott had a special talent and passion for coaching. After playing competitive slow pitch softball with Sherry, then coaching each of his daughters, he started coaching Nixa Softball in 2009. Scott then had the opportunity to help start and coach the Nixa Bass Fishing team in 2015. He cherished his time with the student athletes, always praying for them and providing a safe place of love and trust. Coach Sparky would want them to know how much they are loved. Scott touched many lives through his ministry, forever leaving a legacy.

Scott waits in heaven for his wife Sherry, daughter Amy and husband Dean Harvey, grandson Zach; daughter Brooke and husband Michael Mahoney; daughter Erica and husband Connor Bacon, grandchildren Abigail and Paxton Scott; parents Billy and Carolyn Sparkman; sisters Shannon Sparkman and Sharon Roper, husband Mike; and many other loved family members and friends.

Scott is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Loy and Willie Mae (Tedder) Sparkman and maternal grandparents Paul and Virginia (Haire) Hopkins.

A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Battlefield on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 6:30 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.
