Stephen Edward Barton, age 69, of Springfield, formerly of Ozark, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from results of a fall at home. He was born October 21, 1949 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Herschel Edward and Albertina Josephine (Umscheid) Barton. Steve was a 1967 graduate of Ozark High School and had attended St. Agnes Catholic School in Springfield. He joined the U.S. Army, and served in Vietnam.
During his working career Steve worked for American Glass in Springfield, Harding Glass in Branson, and owned and operated Ozark Mirror and Glass in Ozark.
Steve loved softball and played for local teams as well as a traveling team. He was known to "slide home" even though it might not have been necessary. He loved to attend sporting events with his kids and grandkids. He loved his family and was often the life of the party with family and friends. Steve had a big heart for animals, and most recently shared his home with his dog, Cocoa. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Ozark.
Survivors include: Two children, Ryan Barton, of Rogersville, and Brooke Smith and husband Paul of Ozark; grandchildren, Amber, Kaylan, Sean, Elliot, and Aria; a great-grandchild, Bentley; brothers and sisters, Stan Barton and wife Beverly of Ozark, Anita Barton and husband Larry McCord of Ozark, Ron Barton and wife Sandy of Peel, Arkansas, and Janice Irsik of Sparta; nieces and nephews; other relatives and numerous friends.
A graveside memorial service with full military honors will be 12:00 noon Friday, August 23, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. A celebration of Steve's life will be held from 11:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m. at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ozarks Park Department, for the benefit of the softball program.
