Shirley Pauline Powell, 84, of Ozark, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020. She was born June 2, 1936 in Coats, KS to Maple Dunning and Cecil (Bobbitt) Chinn. Shirley married Lavern Becker on October 13, 1956 in Pratt. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1993. She later married Fred Powell and he has preceded her in death.
Shirley graduated from Coats High School. She worked as a bookkeeper in the banking industry. After retirement she went to work at Main Place Youth Girls Home in Kingman where she was the Administrative Assistant. She attended and played the organ for the Assemblies of God church in Wichita, Goddard, and Kansas City. She enjoyed sewing and taking care of her children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Rick) Armfield of Ozark, MO and Traci (Mark) Anderson of Olathe, KS, her sisters, Lila Lee of Phoenix, AZ, Vita Stegman of Hays, KS and Jean Benson of Huxton, CO; grandchildren, Amanda (Broc) Jennings, Zach Armfield and Jordan (Jason) Taylor all of Oklahoma City, OK, Shelby (Shea) Nelson of Littleton, CO and Logan Anderson of Lawrence, KS; great grandchildren, Izaiah and Silas Jennings and Andie, Bo and Winnie Taylor and Reese Nelson.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lavern Becker and second husband, Fred Powell; brothers, Wiley Chinn, Lewis Chinn, Jack Chinn and Harold Chinn; sisters, Mary Worley, Leona Steele and Margaret Shickell; infant sister, Mildred Chinn, and great grandson, Jack Samuel Taylor.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Coats Cemetery, Coats, KS.
