Shirley Jean long, 89, passed away October 19th, 2017 in Nixa Missouri. Formerly of Waterford, Michigan where she raised her family and resided for 81 years. In 2009 Shirley relocated to Nixa to be near her brother David. In 1997 she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lewis S. Long. She was a devoted wife and mother, accomplished pianist, organist, vocalist, and very proud of her Swedish heritage. A member of the Swedish Club both in Michigan and Missouri as well as Past Supreme Representative of the International Order of Pythian Sisters. Shirley loved to travel and traveled worldwide while owning and operating a travel agency in Michigan. She also assisted her husband in the accounting business he owned and operated.
In recent years she was proud to be a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Senior Center all of Nixa. She had a big heart and never let life get her down or interfere with her passions.
She is survived by her brother David Ostrand of Nixa, Missouri, to whom we are forever grateful for his love and dedication to her. Also survived by two daughters, Ardyth Long of Redford, Michigan, Lynnette Barrett of Jacksonville Florida, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. November 9th 2017 At Redeemer Lutheran Church of Nixa.
The family will arrive at 9 a.m. to great friends and a celebration of life luncheon will follow the service. Cremation was under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
