Sherrill A. Newell

November 23, 1955 — September 16, 2022

Sherrill (Sherry) Ann Newell, born on November 23, 1955, entered Heavens Gates at 6:02 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2022.

Sherrill was born in Joplin, MO. to Eugene Alberta Young and Alberta Mae (Brock) Young.

Sherry courageously fought a year plus long battle with cancer. She faced every hurtle with a brave face and dogged determination. Though towards the end, the chemo treatments made her extremely sick, she was steadfast in her strength and courage. She fought the good fight and finished strong. Sherry loved the lord and enjoyed talking to her kids and grandkids (or anyone that would stand still) about God. Her bible is still full of post-it-notes where she had read something in the scriptures and wanted to be able to quickly find it again.

Sherry was a very reserved person, an introvert, and large crowds made her uneasy. There was nothing flamboyant or fake about Sherry and she really disliked seeing those traits in others. She didn’t flower up a conversation to protect sensitive egos and she always told you how it was. If you did not want to know, then don’t ask. Some might even say she was stubborn.

Sherry grew up in Ozark, MO and graduated from Ozark High School in 1974. Except for just a couple of years, she spent her adult life living in Christian County. In 2020, with Sherry already retired and Danny nearing retirement, they knew they needed to downsize their home. So, during the Covid virus pandemic, they put their home in Ozark on the market.

After several months of looking for a new or existing (new to them) home to buy, without any luck, they contracted with a builder to build them a new home in Clever, MO. After eight long months of construction, they finally moved in the new home on June 25, 2021.

Six weeks later in early August of 2021, Sherry started having exacerbated breathing complications that led to the eventual cancer diagnosis in December. Though her stay in her new home was measured by months, weeks, and days, instead of years, she loved it very much, and had no regrets of moving to Clever, even though it was for a short time. Sherry’s only complaint was that there was never enough eating places in Clever. She really missed the Saturday Freddy burgers in Ozark.

Though not exactly an outdoor person, she came to love trout fishing on lake Taneycomo in Forsyth with Danny and the kids when they were young.

Sherry worked nearly thirty years for the City of Nixa. First, she worked for the police department as a dispatcher/secretary, then later in the municipal courts where she was a court administrator for several years. There was never a more honest, dedicated, compassionate employee to darken the doors of the Nixa City Hall.

Sherry was forced to retire early in 2013 for declining health reasons. A few years after her retirement, with Danny still work full-time, she decided to get a dog to keep her company throughout the day. Danny and Sherry adopted a miniature Australian Shephard from a shelter. Zippy became the light of her life and was instrumental in getting Sherry out of her chair and moving again. It wasn’t for long that her health issues seem to subside for a while. A year later they adopted another MAS Razor and two have brought her so much joy over the years.

Grandma Sherry, as she was known to her grandkids, loved her grandchildren and her great granddaughter with all her heart.

Sherry is survived by her husband Danny Newell of the home; daughter Jessica Neal and husband Troy of Nixa; son Jeremy Yarbrough of Ozark; stepdaughter Brooke Newell Lurvey and husband Chris of Nixa; stepson Scott Newell and wife Kassandra of Milford; granddaughter Emily Maggard and husband Colton of Springfield; great granddaughter Makala Maggard of Springfield; grandsons Dylan, Caleb, and Noah Yarbrough of Ozark; Daniel Newell, and Ethan Newell of Highlandville; Noah and Wyatt Newell of Milford; sister Debbie Stratton and husband Bill Stratton of Springfield.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gordon Young, and grandson Mason Cecil Neal.

Obituary was written with love by Sherry’s husband Danny.
