Sharon Lee Smith

September 28, 1939 — July 28, 2024

Nixa, Missouri

Sharon Lee Smith, born September 28, 1939, in Des Moines, IA, passed away at home peacefully on July 28, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved daughter of Harold and Helen Drumm. A proud graduate of Des Moines Technical High School (1957). Sharon's life was a testament to love, dedication, and joy, particularly as a cherished wife to Jim Smith, whom she married on April 16, 1964. Jim lovingly describes her as his best friend and constant companion.

Sharon's heart was deeply rooted in her family. Her greatest joy was traveling and camping with her loved ones, often venturing to Colorado. After their children grew up, Sharon and Jim delighted in visiting them and their grandchildren, always bringing warmth and cheer. Their shared love for square dancing and working together in their garden were cherished pastimes, as were their evenings spent watching sports on television. Sharon was a spirited cheerleader at all family sporting events, her voice always the loudest in support.

Sharon had a passion for baking and cooking, with her famous cinnamon rolls being a favorite among family and friends. Her devotion to the Lutheran church spanned 60 years, reflecting her deep faith and commitment. Even when one of her children was stationed in Japan, Sharon and Jim traveled across the world to be with her.

Sharon's love for jigsaw puzzles, romance and mystery novels offered her countless hours of enjoyment. Her legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will forever be remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Sharon is survived by her adoring husband, Jim, daughter Susanne Gonzalez (Yvonne), three sons, Paul Smith (Kathleen), Mark Smith (Maria), Gene Smith (Vicki), twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved grandson CoRy Smith.
