In Loving Memory of Sharlene June McKee
Sharlene June McKee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, left this world on March 30, 2025, to be with her Savior. She was born on July 19, 1940, in (Muncie) Kansas City, Kansas, to Floyd and Ines Harris. Sharlene often shared cherished memories of growing up in Kansas City with her three brothers and a large extended family, many of whom lived just a short walk away. She fondly referred to her family on Speaker Road as "The Dead End Gang."
On December 3, 1966, after a blind date and just five weeks of dating, Sharlene married her sweetheart, Richard (Dick) McKee. Together, they shared 57 wonderful years, raising their children first in Kansas City, then in Chestnutridge and Highlandville, Missouri, before settling in Nixa for the last 30 years. Family was at the heart of Sharlene’s life, and she took great joy in hosting gatherings and celebrating her loved ones.
Sharlene held many roles over the years, but she took the most pride in her primary role as a homemaker. You may have crossed paths with her during her time at GMAC, Silver Dollar City, as an aerobics instructor, a pageant director, or as office manager of the family carpet cleaning business. She was also an early member of the Executive Women’s Club, where she made many lifelong friends.
Sharlene accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age at Stony Point Christian Church, and her relationship with Him, along with her faith, fellowship, and prayer, remained central to her life. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Spokane.
In her free time, Sharlene enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, writing, painting, attending performances at Lander’s Theatre, and visiting casinos. She also loved traveling, especially to Aruba. Sharlene had a gift for making connections and never met a stranger. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, always eager to share their stories and accomplishments. Her "puter" was a constant companion, where she carefully stored photos, articles, recipes, and memories for future generations.
Sharlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters-in-law Celia Harris, Wilda McKee, and Charlene Grewing, her daughter-in-law Vonda Sheets, and her son David McKee. She is survived by her children: Greg Sheets, Robbie Mott, Sheri White, Julia Swan, Cindy Little (and husband David), and Vicki Wallace (and husband Lane). She was adored as Grandma Shar or Nanny Shar by 18 grandchildren and bunches and bunches of great-grandchildren. Sharlene is also survived by her brothers Johnny Harris, Richard Harris (and wife Jana), and Bob Harris; her brother-in-law Roland McKee; numerous nieces and nephews; beloved cousins; and many dear friends.
