Ruth (Hinkle) Schwabauer, age 95, of Ozark, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Republic Nursing and Rehab in Republic, Missouri, due to complications of dementia. She was born on November 11, 1927, the fourth out of ten children to be born to John and Lydia (Greenwalt) Hinkle in Lincoln, Nebraska.
After high school, Ruth began her career working at the Lancaster County Courthouse In Lincoln Nebraska. In 1954, she married James Schwabauer and had two daughters, Karen and Terri. After retirement, both Ruth and her husband Jim moved to Forsyth, Missouri where they were dedicated to their community. They both spent over two decades serving their community, their church, The Lions Club International, The V.F.W., and served on several mission trips to Honduras and Guatemala. When Jim passed away in 2006, Ruth moved to Ozark to be closer to her family while continuing to be involved with her church, The Lions Club, and the local V.F.W.
She was an avid bingo player and until recently enjoyed bus trips with friends to casinos, luncheons with "her" curve girls, Bunco nights, and rarely missed Sunday afternoon bingo. She made her exit the same manner she lived; ornery, strong, on her terms, and only after ensuring that National Bingo Day (June 27) was fully observed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Nixa Nursing and rehab, staff at Republic Nursing and Rehab, Preferred Hospice, and especially her church family (who were her constant support) for the kindness and care that was provided.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Karen and husband Kent Brobst; daughter Terri Gilbert; five granddaughters and fifteen great-grandchildren; sister Marie Reinhardt, sister Margaret Morrow; sister Alberta Snyder, and sister Louise Grote; brother Kenneth Hinkle and wife Mary.
