Ruth Arlene Kerr, age 80, of Nixa, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016. She was born June 25, 1935 in Kansas City, KS to Joseph and Elaine (Eastwood) Ambrose. She grew up in Kansas City, KS and the family moved to Louisburg, KS where she graduated high school in 1953. On July 12, 1953 she married James Kerr. She spent most of her life in Louisburg where she was well known for her cakes. Ruth baked all kinds of cakes for weddings birthdays and any occasion. She taught tailoring and sewing as well tole painting. She was an avid crocheter and made hundreds of crosses to give away. On the back of the cross was a poem explaining the meanings of each detail of the cross and encouraged the gifted person to pass the cross along to others. Ruth was very active in the Ozark Chapter #98 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She achieved many accomplishments over the years. She was Worthy Matron of the Ozark Chapter seven times, past Representative of Alberta in Kansas, past District Deputy Grand Matron, past Grand Ruth, and was currently the Ozark Chapter Chaplain. Ruth was instrumental in founding the Friendship Assembly #15 of the Order of the Rainbow Girls in Ozark. Ruth was an Elder of the Nixa Christian Church. Ruth lived a full life loving her family and being with friends.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Karla Kerr Myers; grandchildren Evan Phillip Rotton, and Spencer Kerr Rotton; Siblings Iva May Inman, James Ambrose, Naomi Williams, and Leota Noble.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years James Gene Kerr; and a son Donald Lee Kerr.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 in the Nixa Christian Church, Rev. George Latimer officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Burial will follow at Missouri Veteran Cemetery, Springfield.
