Ruth Helen Harvey passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Baptist Home in Ozark, Missouri. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Harvey was born in St Louis, MO on November 11, 1927.
She was a graduate of Soldan High School. Her college education included an AA degree at Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, and a BA degree at Oklahoma Baptist University. She graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Religious Education.
Ruth was married on August 25, 1950 to Paul M. Harvey of St. Louis County, MO. She was a member of the Euclid Baptist Church, St. Louis. She and her husband moved to Louisville, Kentucky following her graduation where her husband was enrolled in the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
There came to be seven children in the home, six of whom are still living: they are: Virginia Swarm of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Rebecca Whited of Liberty, MO, Gerald Harvey of Burleson, TX, Deborah Smith of Sweet Springs, MO; Merrie Yates of Iowa City, IA, and John Harvey of Jefferson, City, MO; a son, Robert Duane Harvey preceded his mother in death in 1984. There are also fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
During her working years outside the home, Ruth was a school teacher, and a secretary. She worked as a secretary for seven years at the Kansas City Occupational/Physical Therapy Institute, and for many years as the church secretary of the Concord Baptist Church of Jefferson City, MO.
After retirement Ruth was involved in volunteer mission activities in Arizona, Montana, and in Wyoming. She worked two summers, June through August, as a volunteer in the Wyoming State Convention Office.
Ruth and her husband Paul moved to The Baptist Home in Ozark, MO in 2003. She moved from their apartment to the Care Facility in February, 2017.
Funeral services will be at The Baptist Home at 2:30 PM Friday, October 27, with visitation starting at 1:00 PM. Visitation in Jefferson City, MO will be 9:00 - 11:00 AM Saturday, October 28, at the Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City, MO, with a graveside service following in Riverview Cemetery, Jefferson City. All arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
