Ruby Lucille Baird

July 16, 1929 — June 8, 2024

Ozark

Ruby Lucille Baird, age 94, passed away in her home Saturday, June 8, 2024. She was born July 16, 1929 in Highlandville to Efton and Viola (Brown) Carter. Ruby went to Highlandville School until the 5th grade. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Ruby attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. They moved back to Highlandville where Ruby graduated from Spokane High School. After high school Ruby lived in St. Louis for a time and worked for the telephone company.

Coming home to Highlandville, Ruby met and married Robert Baird. They were married June 19, 1948. Together they drove a truck and hauled whatever they could to make a living, watermelon, and other fruits from the Rio Grand Valley in Texas.

In 1960 they adopted their only child, Robyn Lynn. We were known as the three “Rs”, Robert, Ruby and Robyn.

They ran several businesses through the years. Three of which were located in a small strip mall on east South Street in Ozark. Baird's Grocery Store, Baird's Clothing Store and Baird's Furniture Store. They sold the grocery store and the clothing store in 1976.

After the grocery store and the clothing store were closed, Ruby volunteered for OACAC as their home bound shopping leader, then volunteered for hospice visits.

Recently she and her good friend, Quentin found all kinds of treasures on their shopping trips.  Ruby loved to rearrange her furniture in her home, as she called this her therapy.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Robert of 55 years; her parents; one brother Guy; a sister-in-law Georgia; and her Morkie dog Becky.

Survivors include her daughter Robyn and husband Harold; granddaughter Carrie (Mike) Winchel, Oklahoma City, OK; and a grandson John Schroeder and many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, Missouri.  A graveside service will follow the visitation at Selmore Cemetery, Ozark, Missouri officiated by Tom Perkins, Ruby's nephew.

A special thanks to Seasons Hospice for their care and compassion for Miss Ruby.
