Rodney Henry

Rodney Sherman Henry, age 73, of Nixa, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018. He was born August 1, 1944 in Burbank, California, the son of Grant Sherman Henry and Gwendoline Frances Maude (Gardiner) Henry. Rodney served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 - 1966. On March 15, 1968 he and Amber Sue Hill were united in marriage. Rodney graduated from SMSU with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. He worked as a home builder in California and Missouri. He most recently was Veterans Coordinator for the Missouri Department of Labor. Rodney was a service minded man who never knew a stranger, always offering help to those in need. He enjoyed spending time on the computer and was an excellent photographer. Survivors included: His wife, Amber; three children, Dawn Michelle Fitzgerald and husband Mark of Springfield, Rodney Shawn Henry of Springfield, and Jerrod Leon Henry and wife Elizabeth of Los Fresnos, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Desiree Henry of Strafford; grandchildren, Shauna Kay Henry, Christopher Henry, Damon Lee Henry, Timothy Henry, Devon Henry, Jesse Henry and Skyler Henry; a great-grandson, Asher Henderson; three brothers, Kenneth Henry, Arthur Henry, and David Henry; a sister, Anita Moore; brothers-in-law Terry Hill and Jerry Hill; other relatives and many friends. Preceding Rodney in death were: a son, Jason Grant Henry, his parents Grant and Gwendoline Henry, a sister-in-law, Karen Slavings, and parents-in-law Leon B. Hill and Rosemary Hill. A memorial service will be 1:30 PM Sunday, May 27, in First Christian Church, Mt. Vernon. Cremation is under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gathering Friends for the Homeless in care of Community Foundation of the Ozarks, 425 E. Trafficway, Springfield, MO 65806.
