Robert N. "Bob" Meyer, Sr. was born December 24, 1926, on East Elson Street in Eolia, Missouri, the son of Ralph and Emma (Maupin) Meyer. He attended school in Eolia from 1931 until graduation in 1944. Bob enlisted in the Army Engineer College Program in June 1944 and was sent to South Dakota State College in Brookings, South Dakota. He was transferred to active duty in 1945 and was discharged in 1947. Bob graduated from Truman University in Kirksville in 1951. He taught school for six years until he was appointed Rural Mail carrier for Route One in Eolia, where he served until retirement. He was a member of Louisiana, Missouri Masonic Lodge #92.
Bob was elected as the first Eolia Mayor, follow incorporation. He served several terms and also served on the town board for many years. He was a member of Gideons International. Bob was as a volunteer fireman, Little League coach, and served on the Pike County Planning Commission and Mark Twain Regional Planning Commission. He married Ruth Baker August 3, 1958 and together they had two children, Robert Jr. and Richard. Bob and Ruth have been blessed with four grandchildren.
Bob received Christ as his Savior at Eolia Baptist Church at an early age. He later served as deacon and Sunday school teacher, Bible school and Salt River Baptist Association summer camp volunteer. He was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Ozark.
Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Ruth; two sons, Bob Meyer, Jr. and wife Laura of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Richard Meyer of Troy, Missouri; four grandchildren, Shelby and Garrett Meyer, and Morgan and Ian Meyer; sisters-in-law, Clara Stovall and husband David of Abilene, Texas, and Susan Baker of Bolivar, Missouri; cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 19, at First Baptist Church, Ozark, with Dr. William Maupin officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Friday until service time at the church. On Saturday, May 20, a memorial service will be at the Eolia Baptist Church at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Eolia Community Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, First Baptist Church Ozark, Eolia Baptist Church, or Eolia Community Cemetery.
