Robert Gerald Eggleston, age 94, of Nixa, passed away April 6, 2012 at Mercy Hospital. He was born May 21, 1917 at Walnut, Kansas, the youngest of three sons of Elizabeth and Benjamin Eggleston. He attended Walnut High School and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked for numerous employers before starting a career with the Frisco Railroad in St. Louis and Springfield as Dining Car Steward, Dining Car Superintendent and Freight Sales Agent. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970 after 30 years of service. Robert placed his family first and was a hardworking man who cared deeply for his children. He loved hunting and fishing, gardening, and making homemade ice cream. He especially enjoyed sharing his hobbies with his children. As a proud American, he was honored by being able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2009. Robert will always live in the memory of his family and be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Green Eggleston in 1997. Survivors include: his wife, Frances Eggleston; a son, Robert Douglas Eggleston and wife Louise, Springfield; two daughters, Deborah Gillette and husband Robert of Nixa, and Nancy O"�Connor and husband Thomas of Rogersville; a foster daughter, Karen Simon; three grandchildren, Chris Paulson of Denver, Colorado, Jennifer Paulson of Washington DC, and Jonathan Eggleston of Massachusetts; and a great-grandson, Kaden Edgington of Buffalo. A graveside funeral will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 10, in Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
