Richard LeRoy Bowman, age 96, of Nixa, died Friday, November 15, 2019, in his home. He was born July 29, 1923 in Springfield, the son of George LeRoy and Hazel (Armstrong) Bowman. He graduated from Senior High School in Springfield in 1941. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army, European Theater. During his enlistment he served as a Medical Corpsman, Infantry, and in Military Police.
On August 24, 1947 Richard was united in marriage to the love of his life, Leona (Hasty,) who preceded him in death on May 26, 2003. Richard worked as a purchasing agent in hardware throughout his working career.
A community advocate, Richard served on the Nixa Board of Education for many years. He was the first Cub Master of Nixa, Pack 200 in the early 1960's, and was a Mason. Always friendly, Richard enjoyed engaging in conversation whenever given the chance.
Survivors include: two sons and their wives, Gary and Dawn Bowman, Ballwin, Missouri and Curtis and Mia Bowman, Beverly Farms, Massachusetts; a granddaughter Claudia Bowman Barash and husband Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to Leona, Richard was preceded in death by a grandson, Peter Bowman, and three brothers.
A funeral will be 10:00 AM Friday November 22 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with James Dunham officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Thursday, November 21, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
