Rex James Farthing, 90, of Nixa, MO, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021. Rex was born Jan 10, 1931, in Ozark, MO, to Rex and Erma (Bilyeu) Farthing. He graduated from Ozark High School, Class of 1949. Rex and Emily Nadine (Stine) were united in marriage on Nov 25, 1954.
Rex was a hard-working man who wore many hats including truck driver, gas station owner, 17 years with Ozark Wholesale Grocers, farmer, bus driver for Ozark Schools, Christian County’s first paid ambulance director and he loved selling and developing real estate. He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed hunting, golfing, bowling, fishing and you would be hard-pressed to find a bigger St. Louis Cardinals fan. He and Nadine enjoyed camping trips with friends and traveling, especially via cruise ship.
Rex was a long-time member of the Nixa Church of Christ serving as an elder and deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Marsha Veach and an infant daughter, Melinda. He is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Nadine, daughter, Karen (David) Carmichael, son, Kevin Farthing, sister, Marilyn (Ed) Stewart, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 1 great-nephew and many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Least of These or Convoy of Hope.
A Graveside Funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 10, at Richwood Cemetery, Nixa. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. No visitation is planned.
