Rayma Evelyn Young

Rayma Evelyn Young, age 100, departed from this life Sunday, February 15, 2015. She was born July 14, 1914 in Nixa, where she continued to live most of her life. She was one of five children born to Seymour and "Crete" (Gooch) McConnell. On January 27, 1934 she and Harry Young were united in marriage. Rayma was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member and past president of the Nixa PTA and a member of the Nixa Ladies Club. She volunteered at the Nixa Senior Center, where she also served as secretary. She was a voting poll worker for many years. Harry and Rayma enjoyed traveling and were members of a travel group, the Missouri Winneys. She loved music and played the keyboard for the Sunsetters Band. Rayma was a lifelong member of Nixa Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons, Keith Young of Nixa, and David Young and wife Pam of Nixa; seven grandchildren, John Phillip Young, Dianne Litts, Aaron Bradley Young, Brian Young, Abby Thompson, Eliese McCall, Susan McCall; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna Frazier of Conway, AR, and Norma Hecox of Wichita, KS; a sister-in-law, Shirley McConnell of Broken Arrow, OK; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents, sister Elva Gwaltney, brother Carl McConnell, and daughter-in-law Doris Young. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 20, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Burial will follow in Delaware Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials in Rayma's name may be made to Nixa Church of Christ Building Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice.
