Preston Ira Hampton, age 92, of Chadwick, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019. He was born March 5, 1926 in Douglas County, the son of Aron and Rosa Hampton. Preston served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, in France, Belgium, and Germany. On August 29, 1946 he and Louise Coffer were united in marriage.
Preston worked in construction in Ozark and the surrounding area from the 1950's until the early 2000's. He also raised cattle and farmed. He built wagons and loved his ponies and wagons. He also delighted in caring for his horses and other animals on the farm. He had a big heart for family and friends, and helped them whenever he could.
Survivors include: A daughter, Linda Anderson and husband Jim, of Sparta; two grandsons, Greg Anderson and wife Candace of Chadwick, and Chris Anderson, also of Chadwick; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Britton; a great-great-grandson, Layton Britton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Louise, on January 8, 2019; his parents; and eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 5 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Cremation will follow the visitation. A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 10, in Hall Cemetery at Mound in Douglas County, with Bally Johnson and Jeff Coffer officiating, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
