Opal F. Maples, age 93, of Nixa passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018. She was born February 1, 1925 to Fred and Manerva (Maples) Rogers. Opal married James Maples in 1948 and was married for 38 years.
Opal graduated from Nixa High School in 1943. She worked at various retail stores through the years starting at Ben Franklin on the Square in Ozark. She worked in department stores in the jewelry department for many years and retired from Montgomery Ward's at the Battlefield Mall in 2001.
Opal was a woman who spoke her mind. She was an avid follower of the soap opera The Edge of Night and the Loretta Young Show and she also enjoyed playing Bingo at the Nixa Senior Center when she was able. Opal was a hard worker and a loving grandma and great-grandma.
Opal is survived by a son Steve Maples, his wife Sherry of Branson; a daughter Sherry Cunningham, her husband Ken of Spokane; grandchildren Shanna Pritchett, her husband Alex of Nixa, Amber Hainline, her husband Jason of Springfield, Cody Maples, his wife Hannah of Branson, Erica Maples of Branson, and Stacy Blevins of Buffalo; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister Velma Henne, her husband Richard of Nixa.
Opal is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Earl Rogers, Clyde Rogers and Nola Patrick.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Delaware Cemetery, Nixa.
