Neva Smith, age 88, of Ozark, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 in her home surrounded by her family and caregiver. She was born August 4, 1923 in Jamesville, Missouri, to Sam T. and Pearl Edith (Fox) Gardner. On April 18, 1942 she and Jack Smith were united in marriage. He preceded her in death in 1974, as well as her parents, twin sister, Eva Glossip, and a brother, Eugene Gardner. Neva, along with her son and daughter-in-law operated the Highlandville Packing Plant for 50 years. She was a member of the Ozark Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star, Ozark Utopia Club for over 50 years, and also was a member of TOPS. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ozark. Neva loved Ozark and had many friends. Survivors include: Her son, Roger and his wife Carolyn; two granddaughters, Lori Burks and Julie Smith; four great-grandchildren; Logan and Nicole Burks, Hailey and Kacey Spurlock; three nieces, Katy Noe, Jane Gardner, and Sue Bilyeu and husband David; her friend and companion of 32 years, Joe Bill Hogan; special caregivers, Lee Robeson, Janice Manning, Nita Logan, Rosie Mantle, and many others. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Danny Hartwell officiating. Burial will follow in Ozark City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM Tuesday until service time.
