Mina Ruth Handy, age 84, of Ozark, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 in Ozark Riverview Manor. She was born January 13, 1930 in Ozark, one of ten children of Horace and Blanche (Harp) Deffenderfer. She was a 1947 graduate of Ozark High School. On September 5, 1948 she and Joe Handy were united in marriage. He passed away in 2000 after 52 years of marriage.
Mina was a strong woman, but generous and kindhearted, always looking for ways to help others. She took good care of her grandchildren, and enjoyed decorating cakes for their special occasions. Among her hobbies were hand quilting, going to garage sales, and antique collecting, especially her prized sugar bowl collection.
Mina was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her yard. She also worked for J.C. Penney, Blair Pottery in Ozark, and had served as a cook for Ozark High School. She was a member of Ozark Christian Church.
Survivors include: Four daughters of Ozark, Phyllis Atkinson and husband David, Cris Brown, Cindy Robbins and husband Marty and Lisa Yates and husband Chris; eight grandchildren, Julie Boatwright, Jenny Smith, Carla Atkinson, Abby Robbins, Kimberly Johns, Matt Robbins, Hannah Yates, and Allison Yates; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cleta Baldwin, and Jane Lee, both of California; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, and seven brothers and sisters.
A graveside funeral will be 4:00 PM Tuesday, March 25, in Selmore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM Tuesday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
