Michael Doyle Martin, age 71, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018. He died from a heart attack, doing what he loved, competing in shooting. He was born November 21, 1946 in Springfield, the son of Clarence and Bette (Davis) Martin. Mike was a 1964 graduate of Willard High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1966 until 1968. Mike worked at the News/Leader, and 3-M before becoming a Fireman for the City of Springfield. He later retired as a Fire Marshall. Mike was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He enjoyed golf, was a gunsmith, made custom pool cues, and piloted his own plane. He was Missouri Champion Hand Gun competitor in 1979. Mike was proud to have built from scratch a 1964 GTO dragster.
Survivors include: Two sons, Adam Martin of Springfield, and Paul Martin and wife May of Kent, Washington; a grandson, Alexander Martin, a sister, Cindy Farmer and husband Andy of Willard; a brother, John Martin of Las Vegas, NV; nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be 1:00 PM Monday, November 26, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
