Melvin B. Todd was born in Westfield, Maine on August 13, 1940. Through marriage to his belated wife Betty D. Todd, he was blessed with five brothers: Donald and his wife Julie, Orangeburg, SC; Gary and Lillian, Tallahassee, FL; David and his wife Joyce, Cuba, MO; Paul and his wife Rita, Cedar Hill, MO; Dale and his wife Diane, Jacksonville, FL. Melvin (Mel) is survived by a sister, Connie Stoodley; a son, Christopher Todd and his wife Josephine, Alexandria, VA; a daughter, Rachel Todd, Clemmons, NC; four grandchildren, Michael and Maurice White, Mt. Vernon, MO, Ashley Gibson, Richmond, VA, and Alexys Wynn, Watagua, TX. He had a large number of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
He graduated from Presque Isle High School in June of 1958, Zion Bible Institute, E. Providence, RI class of 1966 and Southeastern College of the Assemblies of God, Lakeland, FL class of 1988.
Melvin proudly served in the United States Air Force before beginning his life's journey in service of our Lord and Savior. He served with his belated wife as pastors of three Assemblies of God churches in the New York District of the Assemblies of God, before becoming World Missionaries for thirty years with the Assemblies of God in the countries of Bolivia and Venezuela, where they ministered in the Bible School, churches and seminars for different age levels and on various subjects. After his retirement from missions in 2007, he and his wife jointly served as Senior Adult Ministries Pastors and Missions Director at First Assembly of God, Nixa, MO, until cancer in their bodies ended their ministries in April 2012. After the passing of his wife in 2012, he relocated to Clemmons, NC. Despite all obstacles he remained committed to his faith and found strength through our Lord.
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home Nixa, MO, located at 109 North Truman Boulevard, Nixa, MO, 65714, on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. A short service will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Melvin Todd's name to the Assemblies of God World Missions - Latin America.
