Martha Anne Sutherlin, 84, of Ozark, MO passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the Missouri Baptist Home.
Martha was born on October 22, 1937 in Springfield, MO; the daughter of C.W. and Cleta (Burrows) Tarrant. In 1960 she married William “Bill” Norman Sutherlin in Springfield. She is survived by her husband of 62 years and immediate family.
Martha always loved music and through time, devotion, and practice had performed at Carnegie Hall. Most recently, she had been singing as an alto at the Ridgecrest Baptist Church. God's love was important to Martha, and she spread it by helping to plant Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield and Evergreen Baptist Church in Willard. In her later years she loved traveling God's country with Bill in their new home, an RV. For 7 years, they worked on church rebuilding projects across the country.
Martha had an affinity for children. After serving as a student nurse in Nigeria at the leprosy settlements and as an RN; this love led her to becoming a school nurse for several decades, first in Mountain Grove and finally retiring in Springfield. This love of children also extended to Sunday school, where she was a teacher for a number of years.
A Celebration of Life for Martha will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 in the chapel at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield, MO.
Memorials in honor of Martha may be made to a scholarship established in her name for Nursing through Springfield Public Schools.
