Marie Cawthra

Marie Cawthra Verda Marie Cawthra, age 92, of Sparta, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014. She was born October 13, 1922 at Elkhead, the daughter of William and Dora (Walker) Iorg. After graduating from Sparta High School, Marie taught at the Elkhead one room school. In 1942 she and Ray Bud Johns were married. He was killed in action during World War II. She and Glenn Samuel Cawthra were united in marriage in 1946. He preceded Marie in death in 2006. Marie enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, reading, and her animals. She was a member of Sparta Baptist Church. Survivors include: Three children and their spouses, Jerry and Lea Cawthra of Nixa, Glynda and William Linder of Marshfield, and Kenneth and Linda Cawthra of Sparta; four grandchildren, Greg Mills, Jessica Howald, Tammy Cawthra, and Kim Grimm; fourteen great-grandchildren, a brother Clyde Iorg and wife Doris of Springfield. In addition to Ray and Glenn, Marie was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce Mills, a sister, Mable McHaffie, and her parents. A graveside funeral will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, in Sparta Cemetery with Rev. Dale Roller officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice.
