Major Earl H. Smith

March 18, 1925 — September 23, 2011

Major Earl H. Smith, 86, of Nixa, departed this life September 23, 2011. Major Smith entered service at the age of 17 in 1942 and served 24 years in the United States Air Force. Earl was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He held the aeronautical ratings of Bombardier, Navigator and Radar Interceptor Officer. In 1958 he was appointed a regular officer in the United States Air Force. After retirement he worked several years as a Master Candlemaker for Silver Dollar City and as a manager for Engler Woodcarvers in Branson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Neal, and his son Michael. He is survived by his daughter Melissa Ann Mott and her husband John of Nixa, MO, and daughter Sarah E. Smith-Holmes and husband Will, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; six grandchildren Amanda, Stephen, Michael, Katie, Allison, and Matthew; and one great-grandson Sebastian. He is also survived by his faithful and constant companion Sam, his dog The family wishes to thank Peggy Worley for her love and support and Omega Hospice, especially Shelly and Becky for their compassion during his final days. Visitation will be from 6:00 "� 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2011, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. A graveside service with full military honors will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
