Maggie McAllister, age 81, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013, in Springfield. She was born July 23, 1931, to Robert and Amelia (Kirshner) Haney, in Sedalia. She spent her childhood in Sedalia, and graduated from Sedalia High School, then moved to Joplin, where she spent most of her life. She worked as a cook and a waitress at Fred and Red"�s, in Joplin, which was a long established restaurant famous for their chili. Maggie was very artistic. She loved food, especially seafood, lobster and crab. Her favorite shows were Jeopardy, Downton Abbey, and she enjoyed classical music. She loved her cats, and lions, as her astrological sign was Leo the Lion. In her retirement years, she enjoyed poker games with her friends. Maggie had a generous heart and donated to several charities, especially The Humane Society. She is survived by two daughters, Paula Lee, and husband Terry, of Morrisville, and Kim Sadler, and husband David, of Nixa, a son-in-law, Jackie Harns, a sister, Betty Forster, of Kansas City, one granddaughter, and several great grandchildren. Maggie is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Rosemarie Sunley, and Mildred Haney, two daughters, Cathi Harns, and Annie Klinge, and one granddaughter, Regan Hulsey. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Jordon Creek Nursing Home, and the medical staff at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, for the compassionate care of Maggie. Memorial Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, 3161 W. Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65803. A celebration of Maggie"�s life will be held in Joplin at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
