Lucy Airhart, age 96, of Nixa, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012. She was born November 18, 1915 in Washington, Georgia, the youngest of nine children of Walter and Nellie (Martin) Hopkins. She was united in marriage to John M. Airhart on December 8, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1985. Her eight brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. In her younger years Lucy was known for her swimming and diving abilities. She worked as a telephone switchboard operator in Atlanta, Georgia, and was on duty when Pearl Harbor was bombed. She and her husband had also been wheat farmers in southeast Colorado. Lucy retired from Albertson"�s Grocery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Lucy was a Sunday school teacher and pianist for Manitou Springs Baptist Church and Skyway Baptist Church, Colorado Springs. Survivors include: Two children, Linda Smallwood, and Judy Stuckey and husband Bruce, all of Nixa; two grandchildren, Shalene "Shelly"� Murray and husband Harvey, Nixa, and Rick Stuckey and wife Laurie, Battlefield; great-grandchildren, Amanda Roberts, Springfield, J.T. Roberts, Kansas City, and John Stuckey, Battlefield. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, May 11, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Lance Ogden officiating. Burial will follow in Hopedale Cemetery, Ozark. Visitation will be from 6:00 "� 8:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home.
