Linda M. Staelens, age 70, of Battlefield, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014. She was born in Greenwood, SC, December 4, 1943, to George and Helen (Wilson) Mulkey. Her family moved to Texas, in the 1950's. She met her husband, Victor Staelens, on a blind date in Abalene, TX, while he was in the Air Force. Linda and Victor were united in marriage in 1965. Linda and Victor moved a few times for Victors jobs, and made their home in Battlefield. Linda was a quiet person and had a few very close friends. She was a loving wife and mother, and loved taking care of her family. Linda loved reading and knitting. She loved to travel with Victor across Texas and New Orleans. In the last ten years, she and Victor liked to go antiquing. They had a booth in Ozark for many years, where they sold antiques. Linda was always able to find work as a lab technician. She worked for Smith Glynn Calloway Clinic for 20 years, and retired in 2009.
Linda is survived by her husband; a son Victor Staelens Jr. of Springfield; four brothers, Jerry Mulkey, and his wife Loyce, of Cedar Hill, TX, Robert Mulkey and his wife Sarah, of Lubbock, TX, Richard Mulkey, of San Antonio, TX, and Michael Mulkey, and his wife Tammy, of Gunther, TX; eight nieces; and eight nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Springfield.
