Leslie Ruth Hayes, age 91 of Springfield, died April 8, 2022. She was born August 16, 1930 in Glendale, California, the daughter of Otto Leslie and Ruth (McKowan) Johnson.
On September 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Jack Hayes. Jack preceded Leslie in death in 2002.
Leslie worked as a bus driver for public schools for many years. She was known for her generosity and caring nature – especially for the special needs children on her bus routes. Leslie received a two year degree in business. She was a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels and volunteered at Cox Hospital. Leslie also served as an election judge and volunteered for the Republican Party. She was an avid reader. Leslie was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her children, Jack Hayes and wife Maud, Kim Branham and husband John, Laura Durham and husband Roy, Helen Lopiccolo, Mary Mitchell and husband Jimmy, and Kelly Gillett and husband Steven; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister in law, Annette Johnson; and her beloved dog, “Max.”
Leslie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a grandson; a great granddaughter; and her brother and sister.
A graveside service will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Roy Durham officiating.
