Leila Jewel Clawson, age 79 of Nixa, died December 7, 2023. She was born July 18, 1944 in Fremont, Nebraska, the daughter of James Edgar and Nella Mary (Wolfmeier) Masters.
Leila was united in marriage to Maurice Allen Clawson on November 3, 1965.
Leila leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Maurice Allen Clawson "Al"; daughter, Amber (Clawson) Mueller and son-in-law, Kevin Mueller of Ozark; grandsons, Brendon Mueller of Ozark, and Nicholas Mueller and wife Emma of Nixa; son, Pat Clawson and daughter-in-law Colleen of Nixa; and sister, Linda Stanton of Lake Ozark.
Leila's family and friends rejoice in knowing that she is whole and home in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by loving friends and family whom she had blessed by her gifts of hospitality, service, friendship, and laughter for years since residing in Nixa in 1973.
Her alto voice blessed many a choir throughout our community as she delighted in worship service, teaching and attending bible studies, and actively serving in church ministries.
Before suffering a stroke in 2016 she was quick to provide a meal, a prayer, and a helping hand to neighbors, shut-ins, and friends in need. She and Al opened their home to visiting missionaries, choir groups, foster children, friends and family and hosted more social gatherings in their home than most event centers. Leila was the consummate hostess with a flare for decorating, baking, and presentation that would awe Martha Stewart herself!
Leila's greatest passion was her family and home, providing security and comfort in what her daughter would describe as growing up in a Norman Rockwell painting. Having received a degree in business from Mizzou she applied her business acumen as a successful real estate agent in the Nixa-Springfield area for many years and assisted Al with his construction business for over 35 years.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Pastor Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Hopedale Cemetery, Ozark. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:00 p.m. immediately before the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to provide hope and warmth for a local family through Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri in honor of Leila and her generous hospitable spirit: In Honor of Leila Clawson - HFHS, Dec 2023
