George "Larry" Simmons, Sr., age 64, from Ozark, Missouri went to be with His Lord and Creator on Sunday, August 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Larry had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone who needed a helping hand. He was the most compassionate, kindhearted, giving person and he never met a stranger. Larry (or "Harv" as he was known to many) was truly just one of the good ole boys.
Larry was born in New Jersey to loving parents Edward and Maxine Simmons and moved with his family to Parched Corn Holler in Ozark, Missouri in 1972. He was very proud of his Italian and American Indian heritage. Larry went to Ozark High School and made many friends who he treasured dearly throughout his life. He was a man of many skills and talents and was a perfectionist at heart, dedicating himself to numerous types of construction jobs before retirement, but his one true passion was always his music.
Above all things, Larry loved his family and spending quality time with them. He especially enjoyed working in the shop with his son George or helping his daughter Jessica around her house. He would play games with the grandkids on school nights until all hours or dress up and act silly any chance he got. Larry was a constant joker, making sure we all made time to laugh and enjoy life.
Larry loved to be in nature! He always said that time in the outdoors hunting arrowheads or camping was healing for his soul. He was very thankful for time spent at the property with Suzie & James. Larry was also a 'train buff,' loving all things related to locomotives. Many of Larry's favorite times were the jam sessions with his friends that lasted hours, with him playing keys or washboard and singing beautiful harmony.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Ed and Maxine Simmons; his brother Ed Simmons Jr.; three infant siblings and many other beloved family members and friends.
He is survived by his children; George Larry Simmons Jr. and his wife Monica of Ozark, and Jessica Simmons of Springfield; along with his cherished grandchildren, Clayton and Landon Simmons, Jayla Harrison, Christiana Helm, Catalina Helm, and Baby Sisi. He also leaves behind his sisters, Sonia Cooper and her husband James, and Dawn Mixon and her husband Sean all of Ozark; along with beloved extended family members Randy and Marti Mullen; his many wonderful nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends, all who will deeply miss him.
In our hearts you will always be, Larry - love infinity!
