Larry Lee McKoy

May 1, 1947 — January 26, 2025

Pittsburg, Missouri

Lawrence "Larry" McKoy, a devoted family man, Navy veteran, and cherished friend to many, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on January 26th, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri.

Larry was born to George and Anna Mary McKoy, who preceded him in death, along with his brother, Donald McKoy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Michele McKoy; his sister, Shirley Brueggemann (spouse Randy Brueggemann); his sons, Kevin McKoy (spouse Shawna McKoy) and Clint McKoy (spouse Stefanie McKoy); his grandchildren, Marrin McKoy and Kolby McKoy, and his nieces Amy Goldberg (spouse Hadlee Goldberg) and Rebecca Shepherd (spouse Andy Shepherd).

Larry lived a full and meaningful life, rooted in values of service, community, and the great outdoors. A proud Eagle Scout, he was also an esteemed member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say scouting program, where he cultivated his love for the outdoors and inspired others to do the same. Larry served his country honorably in the United States Navy and continued his commitment to community through his involvement in the Elks Club.

In his younger years, Larry enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and spending time outdoors. Later, he found peace and fulfillment in gardening, often sharing with neighbors. Larry had 34 year long career starting with Western Electric, later AT&T, and finally retired in 2004 from Southwestern Bell. He was a strong advocate and steward of Communication Workers of America (CWA 6312), as well as serving as local president. After retiring, Larry and Michele made Lake Pomme de Terre their home. The lake held a special place in his heart, serving as both his home with Michele and a source of countless cherished memories.

Larry’s enthusiasm for life was contagious. He was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and his love for baseball and football was second only to the joy he found in spending time with family and friends. Known for his sharp wit and ability to make anyone laugh, Larry brought warmth and light into every room he entered. He would often ask others to play cribbage and offer them a drink, always eager to share stories, laughter, and good company. Larry also had a deep love for food, whether it was grilling, making his favorite family recipes, or simply savoring a good meal with the people he loved most.

A celebration of Larry's life will take place on Friday, January 31st, at Adams Funeral Home in Nixa, Missouri. Funeral services, including military honors, will begin at 5:00 PM, followed by a visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Missouri. Cremation rites will be accorded by Adams Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, Larry's family invites donations to be made to the McCarty Senior Center in Wheatland, MO, a cause dear to his heart. Contributions can be made at https://goaging.org/donate/ .

Larry's memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the legacy of kindness, service, and strength he leaves behind.
