Kenneth Bernard Strickland

August 28, 1940 — December 9, 2024

Nixa

Kenneth Bernard Strickland of Nixa, Missouri, entered his eternal home on December 9, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on August 28, 1940, in Hebert, Louisiana, to James and Ivess (Davis) Strickland, Kenneth grew up on his family’s 126-acre homestead. There, he learned the value of hard work, picking cotton, raising livestock, and plowing fields. A “harvest season school attendee,” Kenneth’s upbringing shaped the compassionate and generous man he would become.

Kenneth met the love of his life, Elaine (Philen) Strickland, in an unforgettable moment at a stoplight. For Kenneth, it was love at first sight. Through the matchmaking of a dear friend, Kenneth and Elaine were married on April 3, 1970, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 54 years.

Kenneth’s high school years at Columbia High School were full of achievement and community. Graduating in 1959, he was a standout athlete, holding a state title in track and playing a pivotal role in his football team’s championships. He served as FFA president from 1957 to 1958, but perhaps one of his most cherished memories was playing the role of “Paw” in his senior play, The Hillbilly Wedding. His classmates lovingly referred to him as “Forever Paw,” a name he held with pride throughout his life.

After high school, Kenneth served his country with honor in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. His compassionate heart shone even then, as he made sure that fellow servicemen without family support received mail from home, enlisting his niece to write letters that brought comfort and connection.

Kenneth’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted follower of Christ, he shared the gospel with anyone he met. He was a prayer warrior who fervently lifted up his family and friends in prayer. Kenneth’s home church was Bethany Baptist Church in Hebert, Louisiana, he attended Family Church in West Monroe, Louisiana and later attended Thrive Church in Nixa. Even when health challenges prevented him from attending in person, Kenneth faithfully watched services online. He served his church joyfully, working in children’s ministries, and RAs bible study and fellowship group.

Kenneth’s second love was his family, and he was their biggest supporter. Whether it was a ballgame, recital, or school program, Kenneth made it a point to be there, cheering with pride and joy. He was a lover of music—especially gospel quartets, Christian hymns, classic country, and all things Patsy Cline. Every car ride with Kenneth turned into a sing-along event, creating treasured memories for his family.

Kenneth spent 25 years as a Class A Lineman for Louisiana Power and Light, now Entergy, dedicating himself to providing for his family and serving his community. Though he may not have measured success by the world’s standards, Kenneth’s generosity and love for others defined a life well-lived. He would give the shirt off his back and every dollar he had to someone in need.

Kenneth loved playing cards, singing, attending family gatherings, and being a light in the lives of everyone he met. His greatest desire was for others to know the hope of heaven through the gospel message.

Though he has departed this life, Kenneth’s love for the Lord, his family, and his community will be forever cherished. His memory will serve as a constant reminder of what truly matters: faith, family, and sharing God’s love with the world.

Kenneth is survived by: his wife Elaine Strickland; three daughters, Twila Howland (John), Jennifer Arbogast (Joey), and Becky Strickland; one brother, Hollis Strickland (Donna); six grandchildren, Caleb Crockett (Kytzia), Jason Howland, Landry Howland, Allie Arbogast, Hannah Ray, and Maddie Ray; and one great-grandchild, Novalee Funez-Crockett and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth is preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Quinton Strickland; and three sisters, Joyce Voncile Butler, Margenia Weed, and Nellene McCrae.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, Missouri. The family is hosting a Celebration of Life 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Bethany Baptist Church in Hebert, Louisiana.  Cremation rites accorded to Adams Crematory.

Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.” —Matthew 25:23
