Springfield

With sadness and in loving memory, we celebrate the life of Kena Lynn Bengsch-Melton; a loving wife, a caring mom, helpful and beloved nana, whose lifes journey concluded peacefully on April 8, 2024 surrounded by her cherished family.

Born on August 6, 1961, in Springfield, to Harold and Darlene Bengsch, Kena's warm spirit and nurturing heart touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Kena's early years were marked by her exceptional God-given musical talent and a passion for the performing arts. As a distinguished member of the Hillcrest Highlanders Drum and Bugle Corp, she showed her mastery of the snare drum and music. Her high school years were filled with notable achievements, including leading roles in numerous musicals and her commendable performance as 1st runner-up in the Jr. Miss Missouri Pageant in 1979.

Following her graduation from Hillcrest High School in the same year, Kena's life embarked on a new chapter when she married her soulmate, Mike Melton, on October 19, 1979, at Broadway Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. Together, they welcomed two beautiful children, Sasha and Landen, into their lives, and devoted themselves to nurturing their talents and dreams, often traveling to band competitions, sporting events, vocal contests, youth group gatherings, and many more events in the lives of their family.

Kena's relentless determination and hard work propelled her through nursing school, culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000. Her career was a testament to her compassion and dedication, first as an LPN in pediatrics at Smith Glynn Callaway Clinic, and later as a school nurse in the Willard school district, where she ultimately rose to the position of Director of Nursing. In March of 2005, she fully committed her life to the Lord and accepted Him as her Savior, securing her faith and unwavering belief in the promise of eternal life.

Upon retirement, Kena dedicated herself entirely to her four beloved grandchildren, Isabel, Ethan, Corban, and Ariana, fostering their growth and curiosity with the same love and attention she exhibited in every aspect of her life. Her retirement years were filled with joyous vacations, precious moments, and the creation of endearing memories with her family.

Kena's life was a beautiful melody of love, resilience, and faith. Even in her final days, her strength was unwavering, inspiring all who were privileged to be part of her journey. Through her hospice care, Kena shared her deep faith in Jesus Christ, comforting those around her with her readiness to embrace eternal peace with her Lord and Savior.

Kena is survived by her loving husband, Mike Melton; her devoted children, Sasha Rahn and husband Justin; Landen Melton and wife Greta; her adoring grandchildren, Isabel, Ethan, Corban, and Ariana; her parents, Harold and Darlene Bengsch; and her sister, Meschiel Lankford and husband Paul. Her legacy of love, courage, and kindness will forever be cherished and remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her.     Kena's family will be hosting a celebration of Kena's life will be held at Crossway Baptist Church, on April 19th at 3:00pm.
