Karen Kay Curtis Wegand, age 84, was called home to The Lord on March 2, 2025. She was born in Charles City, Iowa January 18, 1941, to Del and Lucy (McGrane) Curtis.
After growing up in a beautiful Midwest small town, she married Benjamin Wegand, moved to San Diego California, and had two children, Joe and Christy. After spending many years as a devoted wife and mom, she went to work for the Sony corporation. She retired in 2000 as a manager after 25 years of service. Retirement led them back to the Midwest to the town of Nixa.
St. Francis of Assisi Church in Nixa was her church home. Service to others was important in her life. She was passionate about her work with the Loving Stitches Quilting Group. This group of dear friends met each week to create beautiful quilts to give to those in need. Karen was an avid reader, photographer, music lover, and genealogy buff. She had a life-long love of writing and had published poems, articles, and short stories. Her cookbook is still popular with the stomachs of her family and friends. Her special labor of love occurred each Christmas. Instead of sending out traditional Christmas cards, she wrote an inspirational poem. With everything she did, God was her inspiration.
Living family members include a son and daughter-in-law Joe and Kim Wegand, son-in-law Rick Kihle, five grandchildren: Becky Fleury (Jon), Sandy Goe, Tyler Heiman (Amanda), Carley Roden, and Crystal Tena as well as 10 great grandchildren. Other special people include Donna Helm and Jon Heiman. She is also survived by her sister Donna Moulton, sister-in-law Mary Philipp, and two brothers-in-law, Ron Philipp and Jon Wegand. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ben, and her daughter Christy Wegand Kihle.
