Judge Mitch Hough

The Hon. E. Mitchell Hough Ewing Mitchell Hough passed away peacefully on December 31, 2014, in his Fremont Hills, Mo., home with his family by his side. He was 82. Mitch was born March 15, 1932, to Raymond B. Hough and Annabelle (Garrison) Hough in Springfield, Mo. Mitch graduated Senior High School in Springfield, Mo., in 1949. He served in the United States Army in Korea in 1953. Mitch graduated Drury College in 1958 and the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia in 1959. In 1958, he married Mary Ann (Lindsey) Hough, with whom he had two children, Lindsey Ray and Terianne. Mitch practiced law in Springfield for 32 years, all but one year in partnership with Leland Bussell. He married Judy Ann (Chenoweth) Hough in 1985. Shortly after, he was appointed Christian County's first judge of Associate Division II. He stepped down as a full-time judge in 1998, but Mitch loved the law and never fully retired. He served as a senior judge through 2014. Mitch spent his leisure time in the enjoyment of classic cars. He was a member of the Ozarks Antique Auto Club, the Elks Lodge, and Fremont Hills Country Club. Mitch and Judy enjoyed RV travel and spending winters in Odessa, Fla. Mitch is survived by his wife of 29 years, Judy Ann Hough; his daughter, Terianne Love, and her husband, Jeff, of Springfield; his grandchildren, Alysha Love, of Washington, D.C., Erin Love and Jack Love, of Springfield; brothers Garry Fox and his wife, Sue Fox, of Macon, Ga., and Robert N. Fox, and his wife, Maxine Clark, of Ladue, Mo.; and his sister Judy Ann Switzer of Payson, Ariz. He is also survived by family friend Pauline Smith, of Springfield, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His son, Lindsey Ray Hough, brothers Kenneth Hough and Robert D. Hough, and his parents preceded him in death. A visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m on Sunday, Jan. 4, at Adams Funeral Home in Ozark, Mo. Pastor Charlene Dart of Cassidy United Methodist Church will lead services at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, also at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield.
