John Garland Werner, age 79, of Ozark, passed away October 1, 2024. He was born August 29, 1945, in the Brown’s Spring area near Clever, Missouri, the son of John Clark Werner and Mabel Indiana (Harmon) Werner.
He was a graduate of Clever High School and attended Drury College. On April 6, 1968, he and the love of his life, Anita Eileen Fulbright, were united in marriage.
John enlisted in the Army National Guard and served in the Governor’sBand, as Master Sergeant, for 17 years. In August of 1963, he started working for the Missouri Department of Transportation in Ozark. He advanced to Foreman at the age of 21. In 1977, he became seriously ill and was not expected to live. With prayer and intervention from His Lord, he was miraculously healed and able to enjoy 47 more healthy years. He retired from MODOT in 1984 and developed his own business,“Professional Tools”. He was also co-owner, with his wife, of “The Ozark Preschool and Circle of Friends.” Through that, he was a role model and father figure to hundreds of children throughout their 40 years of ministry.
John was baptized in the Clever Christian Church at the age of eight. The Lord was always with him, as he became Worship Leader, Choir Director,and enjoyed his quartet, “Disciple Aires,” for the Ozark Christian Church. He also served as Worship Director for Selmore Christian Church. Later, he and Anita pastored Temple of Faith Church. Most recently, John and Anita became members of King's Ozark Church, where their son, John D. Werner pastors.
Survivors include: His wife, Anita; three children and their spouses, John Daniel Werner and Jamie, of Ozark, Jeremy Elliott Werner and Julie, of Ozark, Amanda Strahan and Justin, of Branson; grandchildren, Joy Werner, John Leslie Werner, wife Hailey, and his first great-grandchild, Madelynn Jane, Jayna Werner, James Daniel Werner, Jonah Werner, Elijah Werner, Noah Oliver, and Landon Strahan; a sister, Cleta Fulbright; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. John was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Oleta Durnell and his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 19, 2024 at King's Ozark, 451 N. 20th Street, under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation will follow the service.
