John Sayre

John Flavius Sayre was born August 16, 1934 to Flavius Jacob Sayre and Opal Amoria (Thomas) Sayre (both deceased) in Ponca City, Oklahoma. 

He had one brother, Richard A. Sayre who died too young in 1983. The Family lived in Ash Grove on Sayre Street. John graduated from Ash Grove High School and then Drury College. He then attended Officer Candidate School for the Navy and made rank of LTJG. 

John married Shirley Ryan (Deceased) and had four daughters-Sharon Matthies (Jim), Sandra Sayre, Susan VanSciver (Patrick), and Shannon Sayre. All of the daughters live in Colorado, where John had moved with his young family. His wife of forty-five years, Ellen Hawks Sayre (Poole) worked with John at the Labor Board until his retirement, and brought Michael Hawks of Oklahoma and Michelle Hawks Hocker (Jody) of Idaho into the family. John is survived by his wife Ellen, daughters, stepson and stepdaughter, nephew Steve Sayre (Mary, deceased) and niece Debra Sayre Wright (Jack), both of Missouri, 17 Grandchildren, 29.5 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Cremation rite will be accorded by Adams Crematory. Arrangements are under direction of Adams Funeral Home, Nixa.
