John Antonio Pickett, age 90, of Oldfield, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014. He was born August 25, 1923, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, the son of John Andrew and Mary (DeSalvo) Pickett.
John and his family moved to Chicago where they lived for many years. In 1980 they came to Missouri to live. John worked for Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workman of North America, AFLCIO, Fireman Boiler Union. He was a family man in every way. John was the amazing father of eleven, taking care of them with his heart and soul. He worked for the benefit of others, putting each before himself. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alta in 2013; his parents; a daughter; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: eleven children, Vanetta Bridges, Carole Hilley, Lorita Plasencia, Pamela Hurshman, Jerald Taylor, Joseph Plumlee, Susie Bufford, Alice Cory, Rebecca Khatar, Mary Mitchell, and Angela Donnelly; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth and Christine; and four brothers, Beal, Jim, Austin, and Wesley.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, May 31, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Bally Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Chadwick Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Saturday until service time.
